High-performance, permissionless serverless compute service surpasses traditional cloud providers in cost, performance, and security, with benchmarks demonstrating a 7x performance gain over AWS Lambda.
US – 6th June, 2024, 9am ET – Fleek, an edge-optimized, onchain cloud platform pioneering a decentralized, serverless compute model, today announced a strategic collaboration with Polygon Labs, a leading blockchain development company behind the web3 forays of Starbucks, Nike, Reddit, and others. This partnership seeks to overhaul corporate infrastructure by presenting an alternative to centralized cloud behemoths like AWS and Google Cloud.
Akin to how Uber disrupted transportation, Fleek’s decentralized model—which already hosts in excess of 50,000 apps—eliminates reliance on centralized servers and instead leverages a global network of nodes to allocate resources dynamically. This approach slashes costs and enhances performance and reliability—addressing critical concerns for businesses building both on Polygon and, indeed, any company currently leveraging legacy cloud services.
Leveraging AWS and other corporate cloud platforms for traditional and blockchain-based infrastructure can be expensive and result in unpredictable network performance. Additionally, concerns around censorship, de-platforming, security, liability, and other material risks make building on corporate-controlled infrastructure increasingly precarious. Fleek aims to alleviate these issues by providing a performant, low-cost, fully permissionless, and self-sovereign alternative that is more future-proof.
Responsible for the web3 onboarding of some of the world’s biggest brands, including Starbucks, Reddit, Meta, Nike, Disney, and others, Polygon enables brands to share value and trade loyalty across web3. Polygon was ranked 2nd, just below Ethereum, for developer activity in Electric Capital’s Developer 2023 Report.
As more companies explore blockchain integration, it’s crucial that the next phase of digitally-native enterprises is supported by decentralized, robust, secure, cost-effective, and high-performance infrastructure.
“Accessibility, democracy, and freedom of choice are among the core principles of Web3, and Fleek’s vision aligns with this ethos. By offering developers more freedom in which tools they prefer for their cloud infrastructure needs, the Polygon network will become even more flexible and diverse—accelerating the evolution and maturation of the blockchain space as a whole,” noted Sandeep Nailwal, Co-Founder at Polygon Labs.
Fleek’s algorithmic operation of its global network of web infrastructure operators (called nodes) eliminates the human-related factors that typically account for 75-80% of cloud costs. Additionally, Fleek’s permissionless, high-performance, auto-scalable infrastructure saves developers valuable time by eliminating the need for extensive DevOps and maintenance work typically required on platforms like AWS.
In recent performance trials, Fleek’s serverless architecture showcased its potential to outpace traditional cloud platforms. In a simple edge function test, Fleek’s average time to first byte (TTFB) was 37.02 milliseconds, 7x faster than AWS Lambdas and 2.7x faster than Vercel Serverless in global testing.
“We are thrilled to team up with Polygon Labs and help provide developers with onchain alternatives for their cloud infrastructure needs,” said Harrison Hines, CEO at Fleek. “The goal is to develop web services that provide real benefits from both a decentralization and self-sovereignty perspective, as well as from a performance, cost, and developer experience perspective.”

About Fleek
Fleek is an edge-optimized, decentralized cloud platform. Think AWS meets Uber. Fleek algorithmically operates a global network of web infrastructure operators (called nodes) to create a superior cloud platform for developers to run their software and applications on. Better performance, lower cost, open source, verifiable, and no central operator (meaning no corporate nonsense like confusing pricing, data abuse, censorship, deplatforming, etc.).

About Polygon Labs:
Polygon Labs is a software development company building and developing a network of aggregated blockchains via the AggLayer, secured by Ethereum. As public infrastructure, the AggLayer will bring together user bases and liquidity for any connected chain, and leverage Ethereum as a settlement layer. Polygon Labs has also contributed to the core development of several widely-adopted scaling protocols and tools for launching blockchains, including Polygon PoS, Polygon zkEVM, and Polygon Miden, which is in development as well as Polygon CDK.
